Emerging Trends & Technology in Data Centre Cooling

Data Centre Cooling: studies* predict that by 2025, 80% of companies will replace their traditional data centres with a hybrid design. This evolution requires a more efficient cooling approach. When it comes to thermal management systems, there are limitations in the fixed compressor or legacy variable systems. These cannot cope with extended evaporating temperatures and have finite compressor control during partial load.

As server power consumption changes in proportion to computational loads, it affects the required airflow through the server. Additionally, virtualisation is often deployed to improve the server utilization ratio. This can result in varying power requirements. Thermal management systems must provide variable cooling capacity and variable airflow to properly match the variable power and airflow of today’s technology rooms.

Liebert CRV4

The CRV4 thermal management solution is a row-based solution designed to provide maximum cooling in a compact footprint. It provides the highest efficiency and availability by removing heated air from the data centre hot aisle and using it to return cooled air to the servers (cold aisle).

It includes all the critical functions fundamental to cooling units such as:
· Humidification;
· Dehumidification;
· Re-heating;
· Air filtration;
· Condensation management;
· Temperature and humidity control;
· Alarm functions and;
· Data communications.

A stand-alone, direct expansion system with variable capacity, available in both 300 mm (12 & 25 kW) and 600 mm (35 & 45 kW) versions, complete with roof or wall-mounted condenser. The Liebert CRV4 series enhances capacity range as well as offers superior performance over all the available row cooling solutions in the marketplace.

It is suited for:
· Rack-level cooling;
· Designed for high return air temperatures and;
· Provides optimised air distribution and maximised efficiency.
